HOW TO DO SIDE LUNGES

Starting position: Stand with your back straight. Take a big step to the right so that your feet are far apart. Your toes should be pointed outward.

The right movement: Remember to breathe in as you bend your right knee to lower your glutes. Continue to bend your knee as far as you can, until your glutes come close to your calf. Exhale as you push up with your right thigh to return to the starting position. Repeat the movement with the left leg. Move from left to right to strengthen both sides.

THE TRAINER’S TIPS FOR SIDE LUNGES

“Inhale as you go down and exhale as you come up.”: The FizzUp trainer couldn’t stress this enough! Breathing right is key as you do the exercise! Not only is it a big help when you start feeling tired, but it also helps you get into a good pace.

“Keep your knee bent and aligned with your feet.”: To get the most out of this exercise, mastering it is so important. As the FizzUp trainer will show you, a good side lunge is when your bent knee stays aligned with your foot. Never let it go past your toes when you bend.

“Lower your buttocks, not your back.”: Like squats, don’t lower your back so far that you end up completely bent over at the end of the exercise. Point your tailbone backward as you keep your back straight. Avoid injury by keeping your upper body perfectly upright.
